Leeds United 1-2 Everton Highlights: Robin Olsen makes 6 saves as Toffees grind out a win

Everton, Leeds United, Robin Olsen

Everton won 2-1 against Leeds United in their Premier League meeting at Elland Road last night. Goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to secure the three points for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, as the Toffees claimed another victory on the road to make it four away wins on the bounce.

Leeds were sliced open in the early minutes as Lucas Digne’s cross into their penalty area was met by Gylfi Sigurdsson, who sent Everton into the lead as early as in the 9th minute. Esgjan Alioski hit the post for Leeds from long distance, before Everton’s lead was doubled by their top goal scorer in the league.

Ben Godfrey met Sigurdsson’s inswinging corner at the near post and flicked it onto the back post, where Calvert-Lewin coolly converted for his 12th league goal of the season. The sides went down the tunnel at half time with Everton leading 2-0.

Raphinha helped Leeds right back into the game soon after the half time interval when he latched onto a Patrick Bamford pass in the box and showed clinical finishing ability to slot the ball into the far bottom corner.

Leeds United dominated possession and had the better chances throughout the game but were thwarted by Robin Olsen’s heroics for Everton, as the Swedish goalkeeper made a total of six crucial saves to earn the three points for Everton on the night.

The win proved to be a big one for Everton, who went sixth on the points table as West Ham also defeated Aston Villa. Marcelo Bielsa’s newly-promoted Leeds United stayed in 11th position, as they were unable to make it three wins in a row.

Everton will face Manchester United at Old Trafford for their next league outing, while Leeds United will welcome Crystal Palace at Elland Road.
