Leeds United showed no signs of slowing down in the race for grabbing the automatic promotion spots with a 1-0 win over Bristol City away from home.
Patrick Bamford’s 9th minute strike proved to be the only goal during the fixture as Leeds held off a late push from the hosts to take all 3 points back to Elland Road.
Sheffield United’s win on Saturday had put the onus on Marcelo Bielsa’s men to respond and victory at Ashton Gate moved them back into the automatic promotion places.
Despite failing to add to Bamford’s early strike, Leeds produced a controlled performance for large spells of the game and were fully deserving of the three points.
But while they looked at relative ease over the course of the match, the hosts came to life during the last 10 minutes to give a real scare to the Whites.
Lee Johnson’s side seemed determined to grab a late equalizer but the Leeds’ defence marshalled by Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson held strong and thwarted many late attacks on their goal.
Cooper completed a personal milestone during the trip to Bristol by becoming only the 12th man to captain Leeds on 100 occasions.
While celebrations were always due after the vital win, Pontus Jansson clearly seemed more pumped up than his teammates when the players were applauding the travelling supporters.
A clip of the incident has since made it’s way to Twitter and United fans absolutely loved the passion on display from the Swede.
If a vital win lead to such a reaction, one can’t help but wonder how Pontus will react if Leeds end up winning the Championship.
