The summer transfer market has just begun and Manchester United have already jumped into the race of signing new players to strengthen their squad.
The Red Devils are close to signing 21-year-old Welsh winger Daniel James from Swansea for an estimated amount of £15 million. It is believed that Daniel has agreed personal terms with the Reds.
Rebuilding the Reds
Manchester United is going through its worst era of football ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson having won only three major trophies: Europa league, FA Cup and the League Cup in a span of six years.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is determined on rebuilding the team and the club’s reputation. Daniel James will possibly be the first signing of Ole after taking charge of the club.
James has had an impressive season with the Championship side and is tipped to play a key role at Old Trafford. He is known for his pace and trickery and can play on both the flanks or as a number 10.
“We’ve got scouts scouring the planet for good footballers and we’ll sign players; players that we think is the right fit, personality-wise quality-wise and price-wise,” Solskjaer said in April. “And can you have longevity at this club and I’m confident we’re doing what we can to get the right players in.”
However, some fans are still not confident and believe that this will be another failed signing like Alexis Sanchez while others state that James is bought just to add depth to the squad and will be second to Martial in the picking order.
The club finished 6th in the Premier League and will be participating in the Europa League for the fourth time in nine campaigns in Ole’s first full campaign in charge.
Club legend Ryan Giggs has also been an admirer of the Welshman and acknowledges the fact that this signing can bring about a change in the club.
“He is on fire at the moment. He is someone who has got genuine speed and someone who is exciting. He can start a game or potentially come on and make an impact. You always want players who are playing regularly and he is playing really well. If you have front players especially who are feeling confident, that’s always a good thing”, said Ryan Giggs.
What can fans expect from Daniel James
Daniel James can fit into multiple positions at Old Trafford. He can play on either flanks in a 4-3-3 formation but with the likes of Rashford, Martial and Sanchez playing on the left flank it is highly likely for James to replace Jesse Lingard on the right flank.
The 21-year-old can also operate as a false nine in a 4-4-2 formation with Rashford and Lukaku or possibly Martial upfront.

United look keen on signing more players this summer in order to retain the club’s legacy and to compete against the top clubs of Europe. Even though Daniel James is pacy and skillful, he still lacks experience which is required to compete in the top flight.
