Tottenham Hotspur have recently hit 5 million followers on Instagram and the fans are shocked to see a sudden rise of followers.
Spurs, in recent times, have displayed impressive performances in England as well as in European competitions.
Why the sudden rise?
One explanation to this phenomenon is the 2018-19 Champions League finale.
The Champions League is the biggest football competition in Europe and Spurs were the runners-up in this year’s edition losing the final to English giants Liverpool.
Spurs also pulled off a miraculous comeback in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against an in-form Ajax side.
A second half hat-trick from Brazilian winger Lucas saw them through to the final of Europe’s biggest tournament on away goals.
As of April 2018, Spurs only had 2 million followers on Instagram and has shifted to 5 million in a span of one year.
Attractive brand of football
Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino is another man who deserves credit for the gradual increase in the club’s popularity.
The Argentine plays an attractive brand of football and almost won them the league in the 2016-17 campaign.
The club has been consistently putting up impressive performances and have been securing a top 5 finishes under the Argentine.
The club also boasts of top level players who have maintained the club’s popularity.
Attackers Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen; and defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are pretty much responsible for the club’s rising fame in recent times.
