Ethan Ampadu left Chelsea to join Leeds United on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window and it appears that the Leeds’ faithful have loved his start to the season so much that they have created a brand new, addictive little chant for the Welshman.
The 22-year-old midfielder has finally been freed from the shackles of the dreaded Chelsea loan spell and has turned a new leaf with Leeds. He’s produced a number of impressive performances for Daniel Farke’s side at the beginning of their EFL Championship season, despite their own wonky performances so far.
Ampadu has settled into the Leeds team with absolute ease, playing 90 minutes in every game so far and playing like he never left. He’s showcased impressive versatility, playing as a defensive midfielder, centre-back and in a no.8 role.
The new Ampadu celebration debuted by Leeds United fans
The Welshman has won over the Leeds faithful with his passionate, energetic performances. The fans seem to especially love his aggressive style, with the 23-year-old never shying away from crunching tackles to win possession.
His early performances have delighted the supporters so much that they have already created a new chant for him.
Indeed, towards the start of the season, some Leeds United fans belted out their new Ethan Ampadu chant that goes something like this:
Ampadu du du,
plays in yellow white and blue,
ampadu, du du,
he hates scum like me and you,
to the left, to the right,
he will break your legs in two,
ampadu du du,
plays in yellow white and blue.
This chant seems to be a real hit among the Leeds’ faithful right now, with videos spreading over them singing it passionately in the tube and during matches as well. It does have a really addictive tune to it and is actually based on a really popular British disco song.
What is the chant inspired by?
The Ampadu chant is inspired by British Pop band’s famous song ‘Agadoo’, which is widely considered as an iconic disco song in the UK. It is basically based on this bit from the song which goes something like:
Agadoo doo doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Agadoo doo doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody
Fans seem to love it so much that they are singing it not only games, but also in the Karaoke bars because of how addictive it seems. With that being said, this is definitely not the first chant that Ampadu has gotten for himself in his career.
The previous Ampadu chant
The Exeter City youth academy product was a beloved figure at his childhood club and their fans created the first notable chant for him.
Their chant, inspired by the tune of Kungs’ ‘This Girl’ went something like this ‘Du-Du, Du-Du-Du-Du-Du-Du-Du Amapadu!’ that is sung over and over again.
Even some Chelsea supporters decided to come up with a chant for him which was inspired by Black Lace’s Agadoo too. Their chant, which didn’t really gain fame or catch up due to his lack of game-time at the club, went something like this:
Ampadu-du-du
Welsh defender for Chelsea,
Ampadu-du-du from the Bridge to Wem-ber-ly
To the left, to the right,
jump up and down and to the knees
Come and watch him every night
and sing the Ethan Melody!
It appears that the Leeds fans have just changed the lyrics of this chant and created their own one for Ampadu, who must be delighted with all the love he’s receiving.
The 23-year-old is focused on enjoying a prolific campaign with Farke’s side and get them back into the Premier League next season, where the fans can belt out his addictive chant against more major opponents.
