Leeds United are back in the Premier League after a long wait of 16 years.
A large section of fans gathered outside Elland Road on Wednesday as the Whites were presented with the Championship trophy after their final matchday victory against Charlton Athletic. It was a joyous moment and the celebrations inside the locker room were equally exuberant.
Leeds’ official account tweeted a video of their captain Liam Cooper along with Stuart Dallas, who were seen celebrating with the trophy and mocking Brentford manager Thomas Frank. The club later deleted the tweet.
One of the reasons the video was made and tweeted in the first place could be the fact that in the month of February, Thomas Frank insisted that Leeds are ‘afraid’ of his team when the Whites lost an 11-point lead at the top of the table. The Bees were flying at that moment whereas Marcelo Bielsa’s side had lost 4 of their last 6 games before Frank’s comment.
Another reason could be the time when Thomas Frank again tried to put pressure on Leeds and Bielsa after Brentford came back from behind and won against Charlton by 2-1 on 7th July.
He urged Leeds to ‘come up with an answer’ as the Bees were on an impressive run at that time.
Brentford eventually had to settle for third place and will now be involved in promotion playoffs against Swansea, Cardiff and Fulham.
The club may have removed the video, but nonetheless it was a subtle poke at Thomas Frank. Now he is the one who has to come up with answers and try to secure promotion for his side.
