Thiago’s departure is now a well-accepted fact among the ranks at Bayern Munich. It was Thiago’s desire to play in the Premier League that just kept him off from signing a contract extension with the German giants.
Bayern’s Spanish maestro was one of Pep Guardiola’s first signings as a manager in Germany. He famously exclaimed “Thiago or nothing” when asked about his transfer wishes at the club back in 2013.
Seven years later, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is presented with a similar opportunity as the Reds remain heavily linked with the 29-year-old midfielder.
Given Thiago’s qualities, the £27m price tag appears as a steal for any club who pounces on the chance to sign him. However, despite Klopp’s wish to bring the Spaniard to Merseyside, Liverpool seems to be hesitating to go all-in for the transfer.
The main concerns are regarding Thiago’s age and injury history along with the already jam-packed midfield in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
However, the player decided to answer all those doubts in the Bavarians’ latest Champions League win against Chelsea as he put in a stomping display at the Allianz Arena. As usual, Thiago was crucial for Hansi Flick’s side, swivelling past the Chelsea press like it wasn’t there.
Additionally, Liverpool fans got to witness the 29-year-old’s defensive capabilities as he tracked back several times to provide solid tackles and overall defensive cover for the Bayern defence.
