Leeds United fans get Ben White hashtag trending above Messi after Brighton reject £22m bid

Ben White, Leeds United

On a night where two high profile Champions League clashes took place, it was Leeds United propaganda that managed to trend on Twitter as fans flooded the social media website with #FreeBenWhite hashtags.

Bayern and Barcelona’s win in the UCL R-16 tie were overshadowed by the tweets of Leeds fans urging Brighton to sell crowd favourite Ben White to the Yorkshire club.

Ben White was a prominent figure in defence for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in their Championship-winning season. However, Leeds United now face a tough situation to acquire the defender’s services on a permanent basis from his parent club Brighton.

Taking his excellent performances in the Championship into account, Brighton wants the player to feature in Graham Potter’s squad next season. On the other hand, Leeds faithful want White’s story with Leeds to continue.

Brighton though are standing firm in the negotiations with the Whites as they rejected a second bid worth £22m for the 22-year-old centre-back. The impediment in the talks has Leeds fans nervous over the whole situation.

Therefore, the supporters took it all in their own hands as they came in huge numbers to spread the ‘free Ben White’ agenda on Twitter.

Propaganda against the Seagulls unfurled across the social media platform as fans found their ‘#FreeBenWhite’ to be trending on No. 1 (screenshot below), even ahead of those associated with Messi and Bayern on a night where the world had their eyes locked on the Champions League.
