Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Lyon failing to qualify for yet another semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester City were the favourites against the Ligue 1 team and the loss invited a lot of criticism towards Guardiola’s tactics and also the players.
As City’s UCL dream fell through, Bernardo Silva, who watched his team lose from the bench on Saturday, took to Twitter to apologise to the club fans for an awful European campaign.
Naturally, fans of bitter rivals Liverpool took the occasion to pile on the Man City star on social media.
The Portuguese winger became a target among Liverpool supporters when he refused to applaud the Champions during their guard of honor in July.
Of course, the Kopites still remember the incident when Bernardo was caught along with other City players singing about Kompany injuring Salah and Liverpool fans getting battered in the streets in a video that went viral following the 2018/19 season.
Annoyed with all the banter aimed at him and City, Bernardo snapped and unleashed a brutal tweet towards Liverpool fans.
The Portuguese seemingly suggested how the Reds fans had nothing else to do in life rather than troll him and City –
It seemed that Reds defender Virgil van Dijk later responded to Bernardo’s jibe at LFC fans by simply tweeting the ‘smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat’ emoji with a picture of him looking rather smug. The post was later deleted.
