Thiago Alcantara took no time in showing the Reds faithful what he’s got when he made his debut for Liverpool against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
Although Jürgen Klopp would have been hesitant to throw Thiago into the fray just 48 hours after his arrival at the club, the German was forced to introduce his new signing at halftime owing to an injury to Jordan Henderson.
As things panned out, the former Bayern star put all of Klopp’s concerns to shreds as he bossed the ball around against 10-man Chelsea.
Despite conceding a penalty, Thiago’s performance was nothing short of astonishing. He effortlessly orchestrated the play from the heart of Liverpool’s three man midfield.
Thiago completed 75 passes since coming on which is more than any of the Chelsea players managed over the course of the game, despite the Spaniard only featuring for 45 minutes, thereby setting a Premier League record.
As if Liverpool fans weren’t already excited enough after Thiago’s €30m signing from Bayern, his performance in the 2-0 win against Chelsea has certainly managed to do so.
And as passionate as the Reds faithful are, it’s no surprise that they already have a little chant ready for Thiago Alcantara.
The enchantment of ‘Thiago’ was heard echoing across the hall in a club as several Liverpool fans celebrated the win against the Blues.
