Everton star James Rodriguez was subjected to a nasty nutmeg and made to look like an amateur by Gonzalo Plata as Ecuador decimated Colombia in Quito.
Despite the absence of six players due to being infected by Covid-19 virus, Ecuador continued their impressive run in the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup with a 6-1 win against the South American giants.
Plata had an eventful outing as besides making Rodriguez look extremely silly, the Sporting CP forward scored a stunning goal from the right wing and got himself sent off in the process due to excessive celebration.
Ecuador had taken a 4-goal lead in the first half before James Rodriguez reduced the deficit with a penalty. It was more of the same in the second half as Plata’s sublime goal restored the lead for La Tri and Estupinan added a further 6th goal to make matters worse for Colombia.
Gonzalo Plata was especially brutal on James Rodriguez as he left the Everton star for dead, twice, in a matter of minutes in the second half.

If the quick shift from the Liga NOS striker had Rodriguez on strings, the reverse backheel nutmeg couple of minutes before was downright barbaric –
¡UY JAMES! ⚽️🇪🇨🤭

Para no olvidar nunca la tarde de los 6 en Quito, y este tremendo túnel que le metió Gonzalo Plata a James Rodríguez en el Rodrigo Paz.

Not the first time we have covered Gonzalo Plata in Thick Accent as the Ecuadorian struck a sublime goal (which looked straight out of FIFA Street) in the qualifiers against Uruguay last month.
