Racism is still one of the major evils surrounding the beautiful game of football, despite numerous efforts from a majority of the footballing community across the world to express solidarity against any form of racism.

In the very same week as the unfortunate incident involving a racial slur in the Champions League game between PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir, racism showed its ugly face in the spotlight once again in the form of countless comments of hatred on a post featuring PSG women’s team footballer Jordyn Huitema and her boyfriend Alphonso Davies of FC Bayern Munich.

Jordyn Huitema’s Instagram upload featuring her boyfriend Alphonso Davies on a vacation in Spain during the season break was stormed by all sorts of racist, discriminatory and anti-Semitic comments.

The thread was downright disgraceful to say the least, but was successful in exposing the underlying discrimination in the footballing community and the world as we know it.

It was a truly embarrassing sight for any football fan or any neutral to see as countless horrible comments: mostly concerning the PSG footballer being with a person who is not of the same colour as her, stormed the post that the Canadian player made in August.

The Instagram post made in August is still getting bombarded by racist replies

In a year that has been synonymous with the Black Lives Matter movement across the world, the instances of racism keep popping up even in our very modern world.

It is quite a thing for footballers to take a knee before every game as a gesture of solidarity against racism, but it is quite another thing altogether for the masses to incorporate that sort of thinking: and we will never be truly tolerant towards all sections of society until any form of racism or discrimination totally ceases to exist.
