Mourinho death stare at Doherty

It is never a good idea to be on Jose Mourinho’s bad side.

The Portuguese tactician is one of the greatest managers of all time, but he is not the easiest personality to deal with whenever an underperforming player is on his wrong side.

Names like Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne and Iker Casillas shine out in a lucrative list of players who fell out with the Special One, while the next inclusion in the list might be of Matt Doherty.

The Irish full-back signed by Tottenham Hotspur last summer as competition for starting right-back Serge Aurier, has not had the smoothest start to life as a Spurs player.

His most recent start for the club ended on a sour note as he was sent off for a second bookable offence in the final minutes of Spurs’ 3-0 win against Leeds United.

Doherty went into a full blooded lunge on Pablo Hernández while his team only had to see out a comfortable win at home, and saw himself booked by match referee David Coote for the second time in the game.

As the Irishman made his way to the sidelines, his manager Mourinho gave him a look screaming of his disgust and disappointment to say the least.

One could also say that Mourinho’s glance at Doherty suggested that the Irishman might not find his way back into the team at all when his one-game suspension ends.

Goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Toby Alderweireld secured three points for Spurs on the night in a win that took them to third place on the Premier League points tally.

Mistakes like the one Doherty made in very favourable circumstances are not ideal for any team striving to be in a title race, and Jose Mourinho is not one to entertain any mistakes at all as he would want his resilient Spurs team to take the title race to the business end in his second season in charge of the North London outfit.
