FC Goa’s Jorge Ortiz strikes both posts and crossbar with one unlucky shot

FC Goa, Indian Super League, Jorge Ortiz, Kerala Blasters

FC Goa’s Jorge Ortiz struck the woodwork not once, not twice, but three times in their clash against Kerala Blasters in their Indian Super League encounter at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, as Rahul Praveen’s second half goal cancelled out Jorge Ortiz’s goal in the first half, before Ivan Gonzalez was sent off for improper conduct.

Goa threaded together a flurry of well-timed passes in an incredible team move in the first half, as centre forward Ortiz received the ball and found himself in a lot of space on the right side of Kerala’s penalty box.

Ortiz attempted a powerful shot at the near post which went past Kerala goalkeeper Albino Gomes to strike the near post on the full, only to ricochet onto the crossbar and the other post in what proved to be an impressive but unlucky attempt at goal.

Ortiz could hardly believe his lack of fortune in front of goal, when the ball hit the frame of the goal three times (scroll down to watch the video below) before it was eventually cleared to safety.

A disappointed Ortiz did eventually go on to register his name on the score sheet when he scored from a long distance free kick to give FC Goa the lead in the game, only a few minutes later. It was the Spanish forward’s second goal in as many games, as he increased his goal tally to five for the season.

FC Goa did stretch their unbeaten streak to six games, as they still occupy third position on the Indian Super League standings: but the Gaurs would consider it a missed chance to further consolidate their top four hopes at the end of the group stages.
