Liverpool were at their dominant best in the 1980s, winning their 18th English First Division title in the 1989/90 season – thirty years before they eventually won their first Premier League title in the 2019/2020 season.
There is nothing that a Liverpool fan would want more than a trip down memory lane to their most successful era, but the Kop faithful might settle for a new away kit inspired by the colours used by the club in the 1980s.
The fans can do with reminders of the pleasant past in what has a tough period for the club in recent weeks, a run of results that has threatened the end of Jurgen Klopp’s hopes to defend the long-elusive 19th league title.
There is a yellow kit that has been doing the rounds on social media platforms, rumoured to be Liverpool’s away kit for the 2021/2022 season.
The leaked design looks heavily inspired from the away kits that Liverpool have previously worn in the 1981/1982 season and the 1985/1986 season – featuring a plethora of red stripes on a yellow background.
The shirt has a very retro look to it, with the collar and the sleeve borders being clad in red, accompanied by red vertical stripes through the torso of the shirt and under the sleeves. The manufacturers’ logo, the club crest, and the title sponsor are all imprinted in red, as a contrast to the banana yellow jersey.
The kit is as “old school” as it gets, serving as a throwback to the golden years of the decorated club that has won the most number of major trophies in the country.
