Kieran Tierney shows loyalty to Celtic with his choice of shin pad during NLD

Arsenal, Celtic, Kieran Tierney

Once a Celt, always a Celt

Kieran Tierney of Arsenal is an asset who is deeply prized by the North London club. The young Scottish fullback is considered as the present and the future for Arsenal in the concerned position, as his dedication and work ethic makes him one of the most highly rated youngsters in the team.

Another deeply underrated trait of the 23 year-old is his humility, as he is someone who respects his upbringings and never forgets his roots – as can be seen from the clipping on Twitter where Tierney is seen to be wearing his former employers’ colours on his shin pads from the past weekend’s North London Derby clash against rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

In a clipping from the match that Mikel Arteta’s team went on to win 2-1, Tierney was seen to be wearing shinpads donning the colours of both his past employers Celtic and his current side Arsenal.

A player who came up through the youth ranks at the famous Glasgow outfit, Tierney spent a decade learning his craft in the Celtic academy before making his senior debut for the club in 2015.

Tierney made more than a hundred appearances for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for the next four seasons and was a part of the Celtic team that went a whole season unbeaten – and won back to back domestic trebles in Scotland before he joined the North London outfit in the summer of 2019 for a reported fee of £25 million.

Tierney’s attachment to his boyhood club is visibly clear from his choice of shin pad decoration, and while the other shin pad is clad in Arsenal colours, it shows that despite now plying his trade for one of the top clubs in the Premier League at the moment – Tierney has not forgotten or moved past his humble beginnings as a youthful protégé in the Celtic academy.

Tierney’s humility and down-to-earth demeanour is a trait that makes him one of the most likeable players in the squad, as they also play a part in making him the special player that he is.
