Martin Odegaard has made a bright start to life in the English Isles. After his services were secured on loan by Arsenal until the end of the season, the Norwegian midfielder has been the reinforcement that the North London outfit have needed – a goal-scoring midfielder who has shown his value with a stunner of a first goal for the club against Olympiakos in the Europa League and then followed it up with another strike against city rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their last Premier League outing.
Odegaard has secured a lot of plaudits with his performances for Arsenal so far, to the extent where the Nordic young talent is said to be inclined to make his loan move from Real Madrid permanent – and he has his reasons for it, according to Spanish outlet El Gol Digital.
1 – No guarantee of playtime at Madrid
Firstly, Odegaard has been given no guarantee of play-time if he goes back to his parent club in the summer. Real Madrid have all the riches in the world when it comes to midfielders, such as the likes of Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos – established midfielders who are still going strong for the club from the Spanish capital.
2 – The lack of trust from Zidane
Secondly, Zinedine Zidane is not reported to be particularly swayed by the promise that the young Norwegian provides, as he is known to trust his veteran, war-hardened soldiers much more than an upcoming protégé.
3 – The trust & admiration of Arteta
On the other hand, Odegaard has found a team and a manager in Arsenal and Mikel Arteta – who are willing to guarantee him playing time going forward and offer him a substantial role to play in their project to reclaim their status of superiority in the Premier League. According to the report from El Gol Digital, Odegaard feels much happier and certain about his future around Arteta than he was under Zidane – a factor that plays a big influence in shaping Odegaard’s decision.
4 – The salary being offered at Arsenal
Also, the lucrative salary that he has been promised at the North London club has also helped in swaying his decision towards extending his stay at the English capital – and it, therefore, seems like a harder choice for him to go back to his parent club than to try and make his loan move permanent.

From the start, it’s always felt like he’s wanted to stay. Arteta’s pull is massive. https://t.co/1swdMI6lDA

If Arsenal can actually sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal it would be a feather in the cap for both Edu and Arteta. There’s a player in there just ready to explode if shown the love Real Madrid has been reluctant to.
