It is hard to be the main man when you are sharing the pitch with one of the best footballers in the history of sport in Cristiano Ronaldo, but that’s exactly what Diogo Jota did as Portugal drew 2-2 against Serbia at the Red Star Stadium.
The Liverpool forward demonstrated his heading ability as he struck two perfectly-weighted goals in the World Cup qualifier match last night.
His first goal arrived in the 11th minute when Man City’s Bernardo Silva floated a ball in the box from the right flank. Jota timed his run to perfection and positioned himself expertly to find the back of the net.
Jota’s second goal, on the 36th minute, was quite similar in the manner as well as it was another Premier League player in Arsenal’s Cedric Soares who found Jota with a lofted delivery into the box from the right-hand side of the pitch.
As things turned out, Jota’s brace wasn’t enough for the Selecao to grab all 3 points as Serbia came back into the game with second-half goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic and Filip Kostic.
Though, Portugal went agonisingly close to securing a win but for a horrible refereeing decision that left Cristiano Ronaldo full of rage at the full-time whistle.
