Mind-blowing stat underlines Real Madrid’s injury woes this season

Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid have been troubled by injuries ever since the onset of the 2020/21 season as a recent setback to captain Sergio Ramos has made matters worse ahead of a crucial Champions League quarter-final clash against Liverpool next week.

The record European and Spanish champions have been troubled by recurring injuries to star forward Eden Hazard who has only made nine appearances in the league this season, as well as other injuries to other key players.

All of Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal, Marcelo, Mariano Diaz, Eder Militao and Rodrygo had to spend time on the sidelines, while the injury that Sergio Ramos suffered on international duty makes him the latest high-profile addition to what has been a very long injury list for Los Blancos this season.

A mind-boggling stat has now surfaced online which puts into context just how incredible their injury crisis has been.

Real Madrid have had a total of 50 injuries this season, one more than the total number of goals they have scored in La Liga this season (49).

Real Madrid have scored 49 goals in La Liga so far

Real Madrid currently sits third on the La Liga standings, six points off city rivals Atletico Madrid at the top, and two off FC Barcelona in second place.

Their current injury list boasts of high-profile names such as the skipper Ramos, Eden Hazard who is ruled out until mid-April, Federico Valverde who is scheduled to be back in a few weeks and Toni Kroos who will also be back in a few weeks – all three players are out with muscle injuries.

After the conclusion of the final international break of the season, Zinedine Zidane’s side will first welcome Eibar at the Santiago Bernabeu tomorrow, while they will later welcome English champions, Liverpool, to the Spanish capital in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on April 7.
