Cristiano Ronaldo, Euro 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo has been on top of the highest level of the game for nearly two decades now. The Portuguese icon is not only one of the most talented athletes to ever play the game, but his longevity makes him one of the greatest ever.

And the sole reason for his longevity – why he is still going strong even at 36 years of age, is the manner in which he maintains his body.

Ahead of Portugal’s EURO 2020 opener against Hungary, Ronaldo promoted his high standards when it comes to living a healthy life in a way that made the world sit up and take notice.

When the Portugal captain sat to address journalists in the pre-match press conference, he immediately took notice of the Coca-Cola bottles that were put on display for sponsorship purposes.

Quite inadvertently, the Juventus man did something very few players in the world would – he hid the bottles out of sight and replaced them with the water bottle that he carried to the presser.

Ronaldo followed it up by simply advertising the reporters to “drink water” instead of the soft drink, in an event that went viral on social media as fans were amazed by his dedication.

The former Real Madrid man is reputed for treating his body like a temple, which explains his incredible physique at his age. Ronaldo is still performing at a very high level – he finished on top of the Serie A goalscoring charts last season, even at 36 years of age.

Sustaining himself at the highest level has required Ronaldo to sacrifice an odd soft drink or two, but he does not seem to care too much. Sacrifices don’t faze the Portuguese superstar, and he will look to add another feather to his cap when Portugal begin the defence of their title against Hungary tonight.
