One of the outright contenders for goal of the season in this season’s edition of Major League Soccer was scored by Nani this week. The Portuguese winger rolled back the years as he pulled off an incredible pile-driver for Orlando City FC against Inter Miami in the MLS this week.
The ex-Manchester United forward looked like he was back at his Premier League best as his team Orlando City met Inter Miami on Saturday. It was Miami who struck first via Gonzalo Higuain but equalised via substitute Chris Mueller only six minutes later. Orlando needed one last moment of individual brilliance to get all three points from the fixture, and up stepped Nani.
The man of the hour had only just assisted Mueller with the equaliser, and only seven minutes later, came up with the moment of the match as he drifted inside on his favoured right foot – and hit an absolute screamer of a shot from outside the Miami penalty area.
The strike boasted of perfection to the inch as it rattled the top right corner of the goal and left the goalkeeper no chance. The technique of the strike was immaculate and reminiscent of his best years in Europe.
John McCarthy in goal for Miami could only watch as he was rooted to the spot – helpless courtesy of the quality of the strike from Nani. The piledriver from the corner of the penalty area secured all three points for Orlando City on the night, as Nani came up with a goal that would definitely feature in his greatest hits – and that is saying something, considering the winger has had an illustrious career with the likes of Sporting CP, Manchester United and Valencia.
