Granit Xhaka was found to be at odds with the ideology endured by Cristiano Ronaldo as the Arsenal man was seen freely drinking Coca-Cola before the penalty shootout against France.
It was a night of Swiss delight in Bucharest as Switzerland defeated France on penalties in their 2020 European Championship Round of 16 clash.
Granit Xhaka, the Swiss skipper, pulled off one of the best individual performances of the competition so far against the world champions – being pitted against two of the best in the world in Pogba and N’Golo Kanté only spurred the Arsenal man on to drop a midfield masterclass.
The former Basel and Gladbach midfielder also came up with a brilliant pass in the 90th minute to assist Gavranovic, who found the net to make the score 3-3 and send the game to extra time.
After that, Xhaka helped the Swiss get a hold of the match in extra time and hang on until spot-kicks – as Switzerland triumphed 5-4 over France in astonishing fashion, and knocked the pre-tournament favourites out against the odds.
Many viewers noticed how the 28-year-old showed an appreciation for carbonated drinks as he was caught on camera downing coke while encouraging his team before the shootout.
An act certain to not go down well with Cristiano Ronaldo, who had earlier in the tournament gone viral for replacing the Coca-Cola bottles placed in front of him during a press conference.
