Kylian Mbappe was supposed to be the man of the tournament, a hero for France. As rotten luck would have it, the 22-year-old sensation brought an end to a miserable Euro 2020 campaign in the most wretched of manners.
The PSG star was absolutely underwhelming in the tournament but had the opportunity to redeem himself as he lined himself up to take the all-important penalty against Switzerland at the National Arena in Bucharest.
All 9 players had successfully converted their attempts and it was down to Mbappe to keep the hope alive for his side.
Instead, what transpired was a tale of utter woe and misery as the Paris born talisman fluffed his lines by undershooting his strike, which was duly parried away by Yann Sommer in goal.
Though it has to be said that as bad a penalty it was from Mbappe, giving up a two-goal lead in the last ten minutes is what was actually truly unacceptable.
