Raheem Sterling has had an excellent European Championship campaign so far. The Manchester City winger broke the deadlock at Wembley Stadium in the 75th minute by capping off a brilliant move by the Three Lions.
It was Sterling himself who started the move when he powered inside the German defensive third holding off Antonio Rudiger and fed the ball to Harry Kane who in turn, passed to Jack Grealish. Grealish played in Luke Shaw on the overlap, and Shaw fizzed in a low cross into the area for Sterling to neatly tuck the ball away into the bottom right corner.
It was a brilliantly taken and composed finish that gave England the lead in the last quarter of the match, and descended the Wembley crowd into chaos.
But all of his good work could have become undone five minutes later when he misplaced a pass and the subsequent move resulted in a goalscoring chance for Germany.
Luckily for England, Thomas Muller would go on to fire his shot wide and prompt an excruciating response from the City man.
If you were in any denial about the burden, the weight of expectations that Raheem Sterling carries with himself, the reaction here says it all.
It feels like one can read Sterling’s mind as he saw all the nonsense that he was going to have to put up with had Muller scored.
