Jose Mourinho will write a new chapter of his managerial career when he starts the 2021/22 season with AS Roma in the Italian Serie A. The self-dubbed “Special One” will return to Italy after a hiatus of eleven years, and will seek refuge in Rome after a brief stint in London for Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho’s appointment has been one of the most talked-about managerial appointments this summer, and the Roman faithful look to be absolutely buzzing to have him.
When the Portuguese manager landed in Rome a few hours ago, thousands of Roma supporters queued up on the streets to give him a staunch welcome.
Footage of the passionate mob of fans singing songs of support has gone viral on social media platforms, as the famously loyal Roman supporters welcomed one of the most successful managers of all time.
The Roman streets were coloured in Roma’s traditional colours of red and yellow, as a show of support for their new manager.
Mourinho returns to the country where he had major success with Inter Milan, as he managed the Nerazzurri to a historical treble in 2010 – winning the Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League.
It has been eleven years since, and Mourinho’s most recent spells at Spurs and Manchester United were not as successful as he would have wanted them to be – but Roma supporters are still banking on the Special One, and looking forward to what may as well be a special season.
