Arsenal new boy Nuno Tavares has seemingly hit the ground running for the north London outfit.
The Portuguese full-back scored on his first start for Arsenal against Scottish Premiership side Rangers at the Ibrox yesterday as Gunners fans across the world got a glimpse of their new acquisition’s raw talent.
Mikel Arteta’s side were trailing to the Scottish champions early on in the game, courtesy of a Leon Balogun strike. The Gunners struck back in the 23rd minute via their new man, and it was all Tavares’ own work in the opposition penalty area.
The left-back showed strength to win a loose ball back off the opposition defender, cut in on his weaker right foot and fired in a venomous shot that gave goalkeeper Allan McGregor no chance and rattled the side netting.
There could be hardly any better news for Arsenal fans as their new signing had just found the target on his first appearance for the club, drawing them level against the hosts.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side thought they had won it when Cedric Itten scored to send them ahead in the 75th minute, but Eddie Nketiah’s late strike salvaged a 2-2 draw for Arsenal.
It was not the best of results for the Gunners who started a line-up featuring names such as the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pépé and Thomas Partey, but it was certainly one great afternoon to be Nuno Tavares – Arsenal new boy, goalscorer and an instant hero.
