Watch: Joel Matip turns midifield marauder in pre-season training

Joel Matip, Liverpool, Pre Season News

Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Austria has had all its supporters’ eyes on it, as fans keep track of their superstars preparing for the upcoming season.

Every training session in Salzburg features some member of the squad catching the attention of Reds supporters online, the latest of which is central defender Joel Matip – who excited the club supporters by turning into a midfield marauder in the latest of the many clips of training that have surfaced on social media platforms.

In the recent footage posted online, the whole squad are seen to be playing against each other – and it is Takumi Minamino who is seen to be running at opposition defenders with the ball at his feet.

The Japanese forward ran into pressure from Naby Keita and was dispossessed by the huge Joel Matip who displayed his strength to get the ball off the attacker.

Upon getting the ball at his feet, Matip turned into an absolute bulldozer as he bravely stormed into midfield all by himself.

The Cameroonian defender showed glimpses of a prime Yaya Touré as he took on the opponents all by himself with a brilliant, mazy run in midfield.

The massive Matip escaped multiple tackles as gracefully as some of the best dribblers on the planet would, making light work of at least three defenders who tried and failed to dispossess him.

The defender’s uncharacteristic actions had the entire squad astonished – as the clip features an anonymous voice saying “look at this guy” as Matip took it all upon himself and became ball progressor extraordinaire from the defence.
