Chelsea and Nike have released their new away kit for the upcoming 2021/2022 season, a kit that reintroduces yellow in the west London club’s colours – but this time in a lighter shade than usual.
It was a nod to the past as yellow has been a recurrent theme in Chelsea’s away kits over the years, but fans on social media platforms found a slight difference in this year’s kit – which features a much lighter shade than the club have usually flaunted in their past few away kits.
Chelsea have had a lot of history with the colour – having had yellow away kits throughout the 1990s, as well as 2008/09, 2014/15 and 2018/19 seasons, but the pinstripes, as well as the black collar on the neck on the upcoming season’s kit, makes it unique.
The kit is a much cleaner and simpler one than the home kit that Nike have made for the coming season, with the club saying that the bright yellow shirt underlines the ‘new era of youthful energy taking over the club’.
The look is completed by black shorts and yellow socks, while the ‘Pride of London’ logo is visible on the inside of the shirt.
The modern strip is also constructed with 100 per cent recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles, thus having a positive impact on the environment.
The kit promises to roll back the years and contribute to a lot of special moments in the upcoming season, which will inspire the new generation of fans growing up watching the club – just as the players in the retro kits of the 1990s inspired the current generation of academy graduates playing for the club.
