Watch: Billy Gilmour shows early spark with hairsplitting pre-assist for Norwich

Billy Gilmour, Chelsea, Norwich City

Billy Gilmour joined Norwich City on a season-long loan this summer in search of guaranteed first-team game time, in a move that has all the makings of a very successful loan spell.

The Scotsman is very highly rated by Thomas Tuchel and his parent club Chelsea, and will likely return to the Blues in a year’s time – but for the upcoming season, he is very much a Canary and Norwich fans will be delighted to watch him play at Carrow Road.

And if the morning does show the day, their first glimpse of Gilmour is very encouraging ahead of the upcoming season.

Gilmour started in Norwich’s pre-season friendly against Gillingham and looked like he has played in the heart of midfield for the Canaries for years already.

The 20-year-old looked composed beyond his years, and his passing throughout the game excited Norwich supporters for their upcoming Premier League campaign – none more so than a particular hair-splitting pass that took out two Gillingham players and resulted in a goal for the men in canary yellow.

The former Rangers man was instrumental for Norwich’s third goal of the night in a 5-0 win.

Gilmour needed only one touch to take two players out and split the Gillingham defence in two, as he channelled his inner Cesc Fàbregas to break both the midfield and defensive blocks with a single line-breaking pass.

The technique as well as the weight of the pass was immaculate to find Norwich left-back Dimitris Giannoulis who in turn crossed for Lukas Rupp to tap the ball in from close range.

Even apart from the orchestral pass, Gilmour impressed heavily in his first outing in front of the hopeful Norwich fans at Carrow Road – and even the fans on social media, who were amazed by the ability of their new man.

Gilmour is certainly going to be instrumental for Daniel Farke’s men, as they will look to sustain their top-flight status after being promoted to the Premier League this season.
