Former Red Devils midfielder Roy Keane lived up to his reputation of being a box office pundit as he aimed some spicy jibes at Kane and Maguire, during England’s qualifier clash against visiting Albania.
During the encounter, the current Manchester United skipper was successful in bagging a goal for the Three Lions, post which, he pulled out a knee slide with his ears cupped in what was a celebration visibly aimed at his trolls.
Having been a vocal critic of Maguire over his prolonged torrid run of performances, Keane was at his case once again. The Irishman picked up on Maguire’s gesture, calling it “embarrassing” given the goal was against minnows Albania and that there is no way it makes up for his disgraceful show on the field for Manchester United.
Shots were fired at Tottenham ace Harry Kane as well before the match. Kane recently expressed how his below-par outing with Spurs coupled with the Manchester City transfer debacle had left him feeling forlorn over his situation.
In response to Kane’s statement, the 50-year-old speaking in the pre-match show simply waved the striker’s grievances off saying, “there can be no more excuses for him.” And that he needs to “liven things up”.
After the aforementioned suggestions, Keane pulled out the big guns as he remarked “he plays for Spurs, he should be used to disappointment”.
The scathing statement left viewers and fellow pundits dumbfounded, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright unable to control his laughter at Spurs being subjected to such humiliation.
