Chelsea’s star shot-stopper Edouard Mendy was at the receiving end of some love from club supporters after a hotly contested match at Vicarage Road against Watford on Wednesday.
Goals from Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech nullified Emmanuel Dennis’ equaliser scored right at the cusp of half-time. The victory secured Chelsea three decisive points that helped them maintain their lead in the race to the Premier League title.
Other than the unfortunate medical emergence that forced the game to a standstill in the 13th minute, Chelsea supporters singing a song for Edouard Mendy at full-time was another major takeaway.
Several clips doing the rounds of social media show away supporters chanting a song for Mendy at full-time, tuned to the rhythm of Shakira’s Waka Waka, as the goalkeeper thanked the fans and tapped his Chelsea crest in acknowledgement.

Singled out and shown appreciation for his brilliant performance, Mendy was called upon to make some crucial saves against the Hornets.
As we know, Mendy stood second behind Italian’s Gianluigi Donnarumma for the Yashin Award at the recently concluded Ballon d’Or.
Mendy had an amazing trophy-winning 2020-21 season which saw him make 44 appearances in all competition for the Blues, managing 25 clean sheets in total. Many fans were of the opinion that perhaps the Senegalese shot-stopper deserved the accolade more.
Nevertheless, a runner up spot didn’t dissuade Mendy a wee bit, as his contributions on the night helped keep his side at the top of the Premier League Table.
