Xavi’s managerial take over at Camp Nou hasn’t gone exactly as planned, as far as fans of Blaugrana are concerned.
Having played five games under the legendary midfielder so far, and winning only two of those, Barcelona has reached a new low.
Their latest Champions League defeat to German giants Bayern Munich was perhaps the hardest to take, seeing as how the loss entails a premature exit from the prized competition.
With a win imperative to make it through the group stages, Barcelona were handed a 3- 0 defeat by an opponent that was unmistakably superior in every aspect.
Thomas Muller, who scored the opening goal on the night, made a scathing indictment regarding the opponent’s lack of intensity after the game, much to Barcelona’s embarrassment.
But Muller, the jocular character that he is, wasn’t done with his banter at just that.
Taking to social media following the night’s victory, the German forward retweeted an image shared by the official FC Bayern US handle.
The image, which was a collage of Muller, was captioned “Mullered”, in an apparent reference to his dominating performances against the Spanish outfit.
Muller has now scored 8 goals in 7 appearances against Barcelona. And perhaps emboldened by his own feat, the striker had captioned his own retweet with the following words: “I love to play against Barca!”
Muller’s words post-match ought to have stung both the Barca fans and players alike, and his tweet later would’ve surely rubbed salt into their wounds.
Although Muller deleted his tweet later for reasons best known to him, his insinuation ought to linger in the minds of Barca players for a while.
