Last night’s Carabao Cup clash between Chelsea and Brentford saw the Blues emerge 2-0 victors.
Despite having the lion’s share of possession, the Blues struggled to break down Brentford’s low block.
The Chelsea side featured a host of changes from the one that drew against Wolves, with some academy players also getting their debuts.
Substitutions made after halftime ended up making the difference as Chelsea brought on first-team regulars.
Even after gaining an advantage in the form of a goal, a victory for the Blues was not assured.
Jorginho, who came on as a halftime substitute, made the difference from the spot as he so often does, calmly putting away a crucial penalty in the 85th minute.
The Italian International adapted to the game’s tempo seamlessly, dictating play with relative ease.
Aside from the strong performance and his ice-cold finish from the spot, a moment of brilliance by the 3rd best player in the world (Ballon d’Or ranking) left fans marvelling at his ability on the ball.
The popular clip circulating on the internet features Jorginho stationed in his standard ‘Regista’ position. A predictable pass into his path leads to two Brentford players swarming around him.
Showing excellent awareness he received the ball on the half-turn before executing a sweet drag back followed by a swift turn, capping it off with a pass to Kante who was in acres of space.
Pressing Jorginho when he’s on form is not a good idea… 🤭 pic.twitter.com/CpZag5e1q9

Jorginho has been a constant presence in the Chelsea side for the past few weeks, putting in a real shift in the absence of his compatriots Kovacic and N’golo Kante.
And this game serves as another reminder of just how underrated Jorginho’s impact from the bench is.
