Newcastle has been reportedly looking to bolster their squad ever since a Saudi Arabia-led takeover saw them become the richest club in world football
On the back of their first signing in the form of right-back Kieran Trippier since the takeover, Newcastle has now allegedly made an “improved” offer for Lille defender Sven Botman.
The 21-year-old joined the French outfit at the beginning of the 2020-2021 season, making an instantaneous impact. Strong in the air and assured with his passing, Botman has made 15 appearances for Lille so far this season.
Newcastle were turned down in their first attempt to sign Botman earlier this month, but now it appears as though another, a much-improved offer has been made.
In fact, Botman’s own recent activity on social media appears to have sent a subtle hint regarding the move, leaving fans bursting with excitement in the process.
Reporting the news on their Instagram account, Pubitysport posted a photoshopped image of Botman in the black and white Newcastle home kit for this season. The image was accompanied by a caption that suggested Botman was keen on making the move.
Eagle-eyed observers were quick to notice that the post was liked by the Dutchman himself, adding more weight to the claim of his imminent arrival at St. James Park.

Considering Eddie Howe’s managerial tenure for Newcastle hasn’t started on the right foot, with Magpies facing relegation threats, the Dutchman would definitely make for a great addition at the backline.
Also given Newcastle’s defensive record in the league which is joint-worst with Norwich, having conceded as many as 42 goals, defensive reinforcement remains Howe’s top priority at the moment.
