Twitter reacts as Kieran Trippier misses Newcastle badge and points at sleeve sponsor instead

Kieran Trippier, Newcastle United

Newcastle United begin their first transfer market with the backing of riches from Saudi Arabia by completing the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

The English fullback reportedly cost the club £12m, and brings with him solid credentials, bolstered by a La Liga title victory last season.

A strong start to a new era, and while the signing is certainly praiseworthy, the announcement seems to have missed the mark.

In one of the promotional images released by the club, Trippier can be seen pointing to something on his shirt.

One would be fair in assuming that the 31-year-old would be pointing to his new club’s badge, unfortunately, that was far from the case.

Instead, Trippier can be seen placing his finger near the sleeve of the shirt, seemingly pointing out sponsor Kayak, an online travel agency.

The motive behind the gesture remains under wraps, and it is hard to fathom that such a blatant error managed to go unnoticed by the entire Newcastle PR department.

The nature of the error made it too easy for potential mockery, and users on Twitter certainly lived up to the billing.

Reactions ranged from effective wordplay to wishes that the fullback is more accurate with his crosses.

A hilarious albeit unsavoury beginning to his Newcastle career, Trippier will now look towards making his debut for the Magpies.
