Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip is no stranger to occasional offensive forays.
The Cameroon international has built up a reputation of venturing into opposition territory at times, dashing past 4-5 players while doing it.
These attempts usually have had a high rate of success and his latest effort against Brentford was no different.
It all occurred during Liverpool’s 3-0 against Brentford.
The Bees are known for being a resilient side, and one that plays a stubborn low block.
Nonetheless, when you have someone like Matip who can infiltrate opposition lines with veritable ease, there’s no reason to worry.
In this instance, the defender receives the ball on the halfway line, he then proceeds to stride into the opposition line.
He gets past the first line of two Brentford players with ease, before executing a simple body feint that leaves another 2 in the dust.
Upon breaching into the opposition box, Matip keeps his composure and looks to find an angle for a strike, as Brentford players scramble to get a block in.
Unfortunately, the spectacular run wasn’t joined by a finish to match and Matip’s tame effort was gathered by Fernández.
Nonetheless, the run itself remains incredible and it’s safe to assume that sooner rather than later, the 30-year-old will finish one of these efforts.
Matip also put in a clean defensive display during the game.
Keeping in mind his ability on the ball and his composure in defence, Matip remains one of the most underrated defenders in the League.
