In Contrast: Leeds create unwanted record as Son and Kane surpass key milestone

Saturday’s round of Premier League games kicked off with a struggling Leeds side hosting an inconsistent but dangerous Tottenham at Elland Road.

Following up their brilliant win against City, Spurs lost to Burnley after a lacklustre performance with manager Antonio Conte continuing to experience a mixed bag of results at the club.

But on Saturday, the north London club regained their form putting 4 goals past young Meslier in goal and piled on more misery on the Peacocks, leaving Marcelo Bielsa with more difficult questions to answer.

The loss has left Leeds languishing in the 16th spot on the table, just two points away from the drop having played 2 games more than fellow relegation contenders Everton and Burnley.

Moreover, having endured a horrendous February against Spurs, Man United and Liverpool, Leeds have broken the PL record for the most goals conceded in one month.

With the record previously held by Bournemouth and Norwich at 19 goals each, Leeds have done them one better following Son Heung-min’s 85th-minute strike.

In contrast, Spurs are looking like serious challengers for the top 4 spots, just 5 points away from Man United with 3 games in hand. For them to achieve it however, the dynamic duo of Son and Kane would need to combine on more occasions as they did for the 4th goal against Leeds.

The Kane assisted Son goal meant the duo broke a record of their own, becoming the all-time best duo to have most goals scored combined. The list includes other great striker pairs such as Aguero and David Silva and Drogba and Lampard, the latter being the previous holders with 36 goals.

The two records that were broken also tell two different stories; one of struggle and suffering and the other of elation and exuberance, both of which together paint a detailed image of the highs and lows of football in one single frame.
