Brighton fullback Marc Cucurella has enjoyed a dream debut season with the Seagulls. The La Masia graduate was picked up by Brighton for the bargain price of £15 million, and since then, he’s been paying them in spades.
His consistent displays have gathered plenty of attention, with the likes of Juventus, Chelsea etc all rumoured to be plotting a move for the Spaniard.
The highlight of his season came during Brighton’s last outing against Manchester United, as Cucurella netted his first goal for the Seagulls, and broke down in tears after doing so.
His performances were awarded last night as he was voted Brighton’s player of the year by his teammates, and also by the fans.
It all occurred during a gala held at the Amex last night, with the Spaniard being the star of the show. He also managed to provide a hilarious moment during the ceremony, one which has gone viral online.
While he plays with unbridled confidence on the pitch, the 23-year-old clearly isn’t a fan of speaking publicly in English.
As he went on the stage to accept the award, the host asked him, “2 awards in one night on your first season, how does it feel?”
He replies, “it’s better, it’s not possible”, before breaking into laughter upon realizing the error. Cucurella then left the crowd in splits as he sarcastically remarked, “Ey Gaffer, next season put me on the bench. I don’t like speaking English.”
Fans online loved the moment, much like his fellow club mates present at the Amex. The Spaniard is a player in demand after his incredible debut season, it’ll be interesting to see if Brighton are able to keep hold of him for next season.
