On 22nd May 2022, Manchester City clinched their 8th league title. The Cityzens have dominated the Premier League for the last decade, winning the competition 6 times.
However, this time it was not easy by any means. Their opponents (Aston Villa) were 2 goals up and a Liverpool win would have seen them lose the title.
Ilkay Gundogan however had other ideas. In what is likely to be his last appearance, the midfielder mirrored his team’s famous deadline day victory over QPR a decade ago. The German midfielder scored a brace to help City come back and clinch the title.
When 90 minutes were up, the Ethiad Stadium went wild, with fans invading the pitch in celebration. Winning the title in such circumstances would obviously lead to emotions being high and such celebrations.
Amidst the chaos, the cameras spotted a blonde topless fan, looking eerily similar to Erling Haaland, a player who is soon to become a familiar face at Manchester City.
Haaland has recently signed for Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian was the most sought after striker in the market for the past 2 years.
He is considered to be the final piece in Pep Guardiola’s squad, which should help them win the Champions League. Sadly for fans, it was not Haaland, whose presence would have certainly made the moment even more special.
That wasn’t only one doppelgänger in City’s title-winning celebrations it seems. Phil Foden was seen taking pictures with his son and the trophy, and Twitter had an interesting observation.
They compared his son’s appearance with club captain and legend Vincent Kompany. We don’t want to pressure the lad at a young age, but having Kompany’s looks and Foden’s genes means he could be a hell of a player in the future.
It would have been great if Haaland and Kompany were actually present during the celebrations. However, Kompany surely keeps up with the team and may one day return to the club as a staff member.
If one goes by Haaland’s track record, he will set the Premier League alight with his performances next season. The future looks bright for the blue side of Manchester.
