Tottenham Hotspur under the leadership of Antonio Conte witnessed a great revival towards the end of the season. Despite all odds, the north London side clinched a position in the top 4 and secured Champions League football.
Now the club management is seeking to back Conte in the transfer window. The main aim is to build a squad that can challenge the league title and secure CL football easily.
The club has already made a signing which has upped the level of their squad. On 31st May, Ivan Perisic signed for Tottenham on a free transfer for two years.
The Croatian was crucial for his former team Inter Milan. He was pivotal in helping them win the league in 2020/21, and last season without him they may not have challenged for the title again.
Considering Conte plays a 5 at the back system with wingbacks, there aren’t many players more ideal for the left-wingback position than Perisic.
While the player’s highlights from previous years are spreading among the club’s fanbase, his Instagram activity has caught their eye too.
Perisic drops unexpected transfer hint
Immediately after following the club on Instagram, the new Spurs player, quite randomly, followed Weston McKennie on the same day. Spurs fans on Reddit considered this as a hint of who their next signing is going to be.
McKennie has been linked with the club during this window. Perisic following him soon after making the switch to Tottenham himself gives such rumours more weightage.
Within this context, it makes sense why people are looking at Perisic’s social media activity to be a sign of the American joining Spurs soon.
Paratici holds McKennie talks
Now, it seems Tottenham Director of Football Fabio Paratici has already held talks with the agents of McKennie. The Italian seems to be a fan of young and out-of-favour Juventus midfielders. In the last transfer window, he signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.
Both these players have seen regular game time at Spurs, which may persuade McKennie to join them. The American midfielder hasn’t had the best of seasons, but under Conte’s tutelage, he may be able to fulfil his potential.
Perisic’s surprising social media activity may be an indication of things to come or just a mere coincidence. Irrespective, of whether they see McKennie at the club or not, Spurs fans are excited at how the transfer window is shaping up to be.
