Kevin De Bruyne had yet another memorable season with Manchester City as the Belgian’s 15 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League hoisted City to another league title win under Pep Guardiola.
Turning his attention to national duty now, KDB and Belgium faced a major setback as they lost 4-1 to the Netherlands in their Nation’s League encounter. A disappointing outing for the Belgians has put Roberto Martinez’s men bottom of Group D following Poland’s victory.
With most players such as KDB himself having come off a gruelling season, a slump in form can be expected from the players.
However, as pro footballers, they are not expected to be outclassed by an outsider in a 1v1 event given their talent and experience at the top level.
This is exactly what transpired as KDB was spotted conceding a nutmeg to Martijn Debbaut as the City man went 1v1 against the Belgian freestyler.
As KDB was with the Belgian camp for the last week preparing for the Nation’s League, he was seen linking up with Debbaut at a studio as part of a promotional event for the KDB Cup (an international youth tournament hosted by the player).
In a short clip posted by the freestyler on Instagram, he can be seen going toe-to-toe with the City midfielder with his quick feet and nutmegging KDB.
While Debbaut was experiencing a state of elation for having megged one of the world’s best, behind him De Bruyne looked not one bit pleased as he cast an expressionless look before going across to his family in the studio.
KDB is by no means the first footballer to lose a 1v1 battle to Debbaut as he has previously bested PSG winger Neymar in such short events.
While De Bruyne would have momentarily been stunned by the nutmeg at his own event, his main focus would still be on producing a better performance with his compatriots as Belgium take on Poland next in the Nation’s League.
