The saga of the transfer window has begun all across Europe as clubs take one last look at their finances to secure and improve the roster of their squad for the upcoming season.
The targets have been acquired and the clubs are ready to make the bids depending on their financial situations. While some are short on funds and have to make way with what they have, the London club, Chelsea, has received a massive boost from their new owners ahead of this transfer window.
After completing the takeover for 4.25 billion pounds, the Todd Boehly-led consortium has further pumped 100 million pounds into the club after buying more shares from the Blues, just two days after the UK government stamped the deal.
The timing, however, couldn’t have been better for Thomas Tuchel, who has been on the lines to turn this team around with new signings. After sanctions were imposed on Roman Abramovich for his apparent connection to the Russian oligarchs for the country’s invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea has been living in confusion and fear about their future. Where will the money come from? Who will they sign? How will the club function without money?
A certain infusion of 30 million pounds by Abramovich in the club to dilute the cash flow issues in March 2022, merely helped the Blues get over the line towards the end of the season but given Roman’s exile from England, Chelsea needed an owner who wouldn’t throw in the towel but fight for them.
Boehly, with his current investment of 100 million pounds a few days ago, has shown that he is indeed serious about the club’s future. The American owner has also offered a free hand to Tuchel for the transfer window and has committed 200 million pounds for rebuilding the squad. This is a solid statement for anyone doubting Tuchel’s impact on Chelsea despite an underwhelming 2021/22 season.
While most suggest that the 100 million pounds given by Boehly will solve the cash flow problems faced by the club because of their prior sanctions, some voices take this as an aggressive sign by the owners to get Chelsea back on the bandwagon and make them the biggest contender for the Premier League once again.
For now, Chelsea is in talks to get Ousmane Dembele, and Christopher Nkunku while a new interest in Gabriel Jesus has got the fans excited. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Ruddier are leaving while the sharks are circling Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, and Romelu Lukaku to snatch them away from Stamford Bridge.
But with Boehly and associates closely monitoring the situation, the Blues are expectant and are on course to bounce back to their glory days.
