Tottenham Hotspur conducted a brilliant bit of business in the winter by bringing in Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus. The Swede brought creativity and explosiveness to Spurs’ right-hand side and flourished under Antonio Conte.
His impressive displays earned him plenty of adoration amongst fans, who’ve already accepted the 22-year-old as one of their own. However, that all may take a nosedive as fans online found out that the forward might have a soft spot for bitter rivals Arsenal.
The north London rivalry seems as old as time itself, and conferring with the ‘enemy’ is considered blasphemy. Sol Campbell became an unfortunate example as he switched from the white side to the red half of London.
So it’s natural that Kulusevski may gain a bit of notoriety due to links with Arsenal, which came to light through 2 different interviews.
The first of these occurred back in 2019, long before any Spurs links took shape.
Conducted by Swedish Journalist Owen Lundh, an excerpt from the interview displays Kulusevski’s response to being asked about his favourite club. The Swede immediately answered with Arsenal, and went to heap praises on them, lauding their stadium, the players and even their playing philosophy.
Due to its age, this could’ve been considered a one-off instance, unfortunately, the 2nd one came much sooner, just last month to be exact.
Kulusevski sat down with Anis Don Demina for an extensive interview, which included a question about a side he wants to play for before hanging up his boots.
The Swede’s response was cryptic but included a crucial detail as he referred to it as a ‘sensitive matter’. Placing this in context alongside his aforementioned praise for the Gunners, and it becomes easy to connect the dots.
The theory isn’t exactly solid, but there’s certainly enough substance for it to be worthy of discussion. Naturally, the mere mention of Arsenal was enough ammunition for Gooners, who subsequently began to troll their north London neighbours.
So will Dejan Kulusevski become the next ‘Judas’ for Spurs fans? Only time will tell.
