Heading into the summer transfer window, Chelsea were one of the few sides who absolutely needed to spend big on reinforcements.
Losing 2 solid defenders in Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen coupled with certain players equivalent to deadwood has placed the Blues in dire need of a minor overhaul.
The brand new owners have already shown their intentions to splurge, as Chelsea acquired the services of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly in quick succession.
However, the momentum has stagnated since, as the club has lost out on numerous targets.
Raphinha, Matthijs De Ligt, Presnel Kimpembe etc have all shone away from a move to Stamford Bridge. But the one that stung the most has to be Jules Kounde.
The Sevilla centre-back has been a long-term target for the Blues, and all signs pointed towards him finally joining the England outfit.
Unfortunately, Barcelona intervened at the twelfth hour, and by the looks of it, have successfully gazumped Chelsea, again.
Kounde perfectly fit the profile Thomas Tuchel required, and finding a suitable replacement is easier said than done. However, following the Kounde saga, Chelsea seems to be plotting a move for Leicester City‘s Wesley Fofana.
The young Frenchman is held in high regard by the Foxes, who’d gladly slap a hefty price tag of £70m+ to deter any pursuers. But with their options seemingly running out, Chelsea may just go all in.
When the rumour first surfaced many brushed it off as yet another baseless report, designed to draw in clicks and offer false hope.
However, some intriguing social media activity looks to suggest that perhaps a move is indeed brewing behind the scenes.
The activity was spotted on Instagram by fans online and centred around an account named @nikoo25_.
The profile is one of the handful of accounts followed by Fofana on the platform, the two were even spotted vacationing together in Dubai.
As for the interesting activity, the account posted a picture of what appears to be a young Fofana wearing an old Chelsea kit, paired with the caption, ‘Ever since you were a kid.’
The timing certainly makes it all the more interesting, as it has barely been 24 hours since the links emerged. It’s likely that the story was a hint, but perhaps a premature one as it was deleted after some time.
There’s no guarantee that the deal will go through, especially as the Frenchman signed a long-term contract back in March. But with numerous reports popping up alongside his friend’s story, the situation is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
