Kylian Mbappe has silenced all his doubters by enjoying an amazing Qatar World Cup 2022 campaign with France so far.
He has dispelled the tensions of the French football fans and ensured that the absence of major players like Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba or Christopher Nkunku hasn’t been felt.
The PSG forward is currently the top-scorer of the World Cup with five goals. At the age of 23, he has already 9 World Cup goals in his career and is en route to breaking Miroslav Klose’s record for most goals scored in the elite international competition.
Mbappe is playing at another level and has opposition sides scrambling to put multiple bodies on his side, just to keep him quiet.
Even after being the victim of tough marking and aggressive challenges, the French forward has still scored some highly memorable goals to take his side to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
He looks set to win the Golden Boot in this edition and the possibility of winning his second World Cup title at such a young age is now a distinct possibility. Mbappe’s international career might be soaring, but there are still some frustrations around him at the domestic level.
The Frenchman has, of course, won multiple Ligue 1 titles with PSG – but is yet to taste Champions League glory.
Even he hasn’t been able to end their streak of coming up short in the European competition and there is a belief that the 23-year-old will need to leave PSG for a traditional ‘European giant’ to take his career to a whole new level.
Despite signing a new two-year contract with PSG earlier this year, there are always rumours swirling around his future.
While his links to Real Madrid are well documented, Mbappe has also been linked to a move to Premier League giants Liverpool over the course of this year.
What has fired up these links is the fact that the Frenchman mentioned in an interview that his mother was a big supporter of the Merseyside club. Some Liverpool fans are hoping that his mother can convince the world-class forward to join them in the near future.
One Liverpool supporter was even able to track down and have an interaction with Mbappe’s mother during France’s win over England in the quarter-finals.
Twitter user Derry Mensah has posted a picture of one of his friends posing with Mbappe’s mum Fayza Lamari, teasing that she might’ve given a positive update on her son’s potential move to Anfield.
Liverpool fans were delighted to see the 48-year-old pointing at the Liverbird crest on the current season’s home kit that the World Cup goer was wearing.
The Reds contingent should also know that she is actually a huge Liverpool fan.
For the time being, of course, the 23-year-old is fully focused on helping his side win the World Cup and just needs to help them win two more games to make history for France and help them become the first team in the 21st century to retain their World Cup title.
