Last night’s Premier League action saw Liverpool travel to the Community Stadium for a tie against Brentford.
An evening away against the Bees has proved to be a difficult encounter for almost every team. And barring an Arsenal side that can do wrong, none of the Top 6 clubs has walked away with all 3 points at Brentford this season.
That trend was set to continue as the lacklustre Reds failed to muster any sort of momentum and eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat.
Brimming with energy, Brentford were at its energetic best.ย
Sturdy in defence and full of running, the Bees won a majority of the second balls, while Liverpool struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
Despite the absence of their talisman Ivan Toney, the home side still looked sharp on the offence, as forward Bryan Mbeumo stepped up effectively.
While he may not attract the same amount of buzz as Toney, the Cameroon International may be just as crucial to Brentford. And against Liverpool, he was certainly the star of the show.
Building upon his impressive individual displays at the World Cup, Mbeumo provided the required spark down Brentford’s right and even grabbed a goal in the 84th minute.
He out-muscled Ibrahima Konate to gain possession of a floated pass, before finishing coolly past Allison.
His performance became a popular topic of discussion amongst fans online, and so did his choice of celebration after scoring the goal.
Ushering his inner LeBron James, the 23-year-old whipped out the iconic baller’s signature celebration, also known as ‘The Silencer’.
The celebration itself involves a few knee raises in tandem with downward arm thrusts, and Mbeumo certainly did it justice.
Fans online couldn’t help but point out the tinge of irony, as James is part-owner of Liverpool, and Mbeumo dropped his signature celebration against them.
You’d be surprised to know that this wasn’t the only instance of a LeBron James x Mbeumo crossover, as the other one took place during the World Cup.
After watching the Brentford forward play for Cameroon, LeBron joked that the two were doppelgangers and said ‘I mean I got work to do in other places too!’.
By executing ‘The Silencer’, Mbeumo joins the long list of other athletes who’ve done the same, a list that may yet see other Premier League stars join in.
