Liverpool have had a really disappointing start to 2023. The Reds are yet to win a game since the turn of the year, suffering an embarrassing loss to Brentford and only being able to play out a draw against Wolves in the FA Cup.
Luck does not appear to be with Jurgen Klopp’s men. They are being held back by regular injuries to key players, with the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz out for a long time. Virgil van Dijk has also joined the injury recently to make things worse.
Since the sudden signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV, transfer news has also been slow.
As a result, Liverpool fans are having to find other ways to find some solace during the dull period for them. They seem to have found one in the form of a new upcoming special kit that is set to be released.
As it’s well known, Liverpool are partly owned by NBA icon LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has been a part-owner of the Premier League club since 2011 because he is also a partner of the Fenway Sports Group – which owns Liverpool FC too.
Lebron is quite active on social media with his praises for the Reds and often travels to watch their games too.
Nike, the brand which endorses for both Liverpool and King James, is deciding to pay a homage to this partnership by launching a new kit.
This special ‘Lebron x Liverpool’ shirt will be designed to look more similar to an old-school NBA jersey rather than a football jersey.
Early leaks of this new jersey shows black t-shirt with red stripes all over it.
In the bottom area of the tag of the shirt, the words written show: ‘Engineered to the exact specifications of Liverpool FC & Lebron James’. The kit is rumored to be ready for launch in early 2023.
Well, it appears that this leaked kit has not been as big a hit with the fans as Nike would’ve wanted.
In fact, the response has been quite the opposite. The majority of Liverpool fans don’t like it at all, finding it to be too corny and old-school for their liking.
Instead, the fans appear to be promoting a concept version of the Liverpool x LeBron shirt.
This kit appears to be inspired by the current LA Lakers away Purple coloured jersey, which James often wears when playing for them.
A photoshopped picture of Mohamed Salah shows him wearing a purple kit with Liverpool’s crest, the Nike logo and the Standard Chartered logo in yellow.
It’s similar to the colors that King James wears when he is helping the Lakers win games in the NBA.
This fan-made kit is actually much cleaner and simpler than the rumoured leaked one that is doing the rounds right now.
Nike are yet to officially announce their intentions of launching a new Liverpool kit, but going by the reactions on social media, they should probably think twice about releasing the leaked kit.
