Napoli are raising quite a few eyebrows with their relentless pursuit of the Serie A title this season.
Gli Azzurri are flying high and almost seem to be unstoppable, having absolutely ploughed through title rivals Juventus with a dominant 5-1 win in their last game.
They are averaging almost three goals a game and have won 15 of their 18 matches so far this season – which has helped them go 9 points clear of second-place AC Milan in the title race.
Luciano Spalletti is cooking something really special and trying to win his first-ever Serie A title as manager after failing to do so with Inter Milan.
Napoli are well aware that a lot of clubs and their fans have their attention stuck on them.
Victor Osimhen is creating a storm in Serie A with his goal-scoring heroics and causing a lot of neutral fans to tune in for his side’s games.
Knowing that their popularity within their own fanbase and neutrals is at a fever high, Napoli’s EA7 (Armani) is looking to release a new kit.
The Serie A league leaders already have one of the most high-profile sponsors to manufacture their kit, but they appear to have made it a tradition to create limited edition kits in time for certain occasions every year.
Last season, they created a unique kit in tribute to the late Diego Maradona and released it for a short period of time. They also released a Halloween edition kit which looked more like a tribute to Spiderman than anything else.
This year, that ‘rare’ kit appears to be one made in time for Valentine’s Day.
The ‘special day’ of the year is on February 14 – when couples around the world celebrate their love for each other – while single people aspire to find new love. It is regarded as the ‘day of love’ and one in which many people opt to buy something special for their loved ones.
Napoli looks to target exactly this kind of people by creating a new kit which can be gifted for the special day. They’ve released this new ‘Valentine’s Day’ edition which is a white kit with red patterns around the collar and shoulders.
But the main ‘attraction’ of the kit appears to be a huge kiss symbol that is placed towards the bottom length of the kit.
The ‘kiss’ seems to be a symbol of love in the limited edition kit. Because this is a limited edition kit, it is hardly cheap.
This Valentine’s Day jersey is priced at a whopping €125 and the players wore it for the first time 2-2 draw against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia clash at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday. The problem, however, is that the general public does not like the kit at all.
Most of the neutral fans are absolutely appalled by the outlandish design of the kit and how cringe-worthy it looks.
Fans can’t believe how the club looks to rinse money out of their supporters by releasing limited edition kits multiple times a year.
While some partners of Napoli supporters might find it a good idea to gift this to their better halves, shelling out €125 for a jersey with a huge kiss sign is hardly the perfect Valentine’s Day present.
