The recently concluded January transfer window was certainly an eventful one, as many big names switched teams mid-season.
Among the highlights was Joao Cancelo’s shock loan move to Bayern Munich, Cody Gakpo’s surprising arrival at Liverpool and Jorginho’s abrupt switch to Arsenal.
But if there was one side that dominated the winter window, it was undoubtedly Chelsea.
The Blues went on an unprecedented spending spree with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali leading the charge.
The London outfit successfully recruited the likes of Joao Felix, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashille, Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana, Malo Gusto and Andrey Santos.
These signings alone were enough to stage a much-required rebuild, but Boehly and co were hell-bent on acquiring the final piece of the puzzle: Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea had formally informed Benfica of their interest in the midfielder during the early days of January, before eventually sending an official bid.
However, negotiations initially broke down after the clubs failed to reach an agreement, kicking off an unreal transfer saga that quite literally went down to the wire.
A compromise was finally achieved during the final hours of the window, as Chelsea worked posthaste to secure the signing.
After a successful race to the finish line, the deal was confirmed, and Enzo was a Blue.
Fans online anxiously waited long into the night, tracking every major development of the saga through social media.
Fortunately, their efforts did not go in vain, and the very next day, Chelsea announced the Argentine’s signing through their social media.
The club also made sure to make the most out of the announcement, as instead of a plain old unveiling, Chelsea took the musical route with Fernandes.
In the past, there have been some solid transfer announcements that incorporate a bit of musical flavour, and Alexis Sanchez’s rendition of ‘GGMU’ and Pogba’s cold unveiling with a Stormzy feature comes to mind.
Chelsea’s efforts were no different, as they absolutely nailed the song choice by hiring Argentine artists
La T y La M to create a special spin on one of their most popular tracks.
Originally titled ‘Pa’ la Seleccion’, the track was created to cheer on Argentina for the Qatar World Cup, and after their eventual triumph, it became a victory lap.
The members of La T y La M were even present at the team’s celebration party in Buenos Aires, where they ended up handing the mic to Enzo who performed the song himself and did it justice.
Given all the context, there really couldn’t have been a better match for Enzo’s unveiling track than the Argentine ensemble, who certainly didn’t disappoint with the final result.
Using the exact same instrumental as ‘Pa’ la Seleccion’, they lent their voices to a set of lyrics dedicated to the midfielder. Upon translation, they come out to be, ‘This La T y La M’ for Enzo, From Argentina to England, with the smile of someone that won the third title, a World Champion, you already know who he is. Enzo Fernandez, he’s off to London…’
The song, and the unveiling overall, was a real hit amongst fans, and you can expect Pa’ la Seleccion’s streaming numbers to see a sudden spike.
