Did You See That: Gavi Launches Himself Onto Andreas Christensen At Full Time

Barcelona, Gavi

Gavi keeps on getting more and more popular in Barcelona. The Spaniard recently saw his new contract officially registered by the club, allowing them to ensure that he will be there at least until June 2026.

With the new deal, the teenager also received the new no.6 jersey which is selling like hotcakes. Everybody seems to love Gavi because of his incredible growth over the last few years and how he appears to put everything on the line when playing for Barca.

The 18-year-old has been among Barca’s best players this season, excelling in a number of roles around the pitch. He’s even managed to seamlessly fit into the role of a left-winger in recent games, filling in for the injured Ousmane Dembele.

While he might not be the kind of midfielder to get goal contributions every game, Gavi elevates the overall quality of his team’s football and help those around him be under less pressure. He did that with a hard-working, efficient display for Barca in their 1-0 win over Villarreal in the previous La Liga game.

It was a tough game for the Blaugrana, but they managed to fight their way to secure a narrow win from a difficult clash. In doing so, they went 11 points clear at the top of the table – having played one game more than Real Madrid.

The game itself felt like a real slogfest, with Villarreal actually dominating the majority of the possession and putting the visitors under utmost pressure in the second half. Barca had to ride their luck a bit but needed their entire team to operate as one unbreakable unit to frustrate the hosts.

It was such a tense encounter that after the referee blew the final whistle, the Barca players lost their calm and celebrated as if they had won a cup final. Gavi was definitely the most over-the-top with his celebrations as he, among others, realized the importance of grinding out this win.

The young midfielder jumped atop a team huddle seconds after full-time and ended up climbing on the shoulders of teammate Andreas Christensen – who himself also put in a highly admirable performance.

Christensen, along with fellow centre-back Ronald Araujo, maintained a disciplined backline and only allowed the hosts a few shots on target.

The Danish centre-back didn’t seem to mind at all having the entire weight of Gavi on him, as he was too overwhelmed with positive emotions for that.

Gavi was extremely thankful to his defenders for helping Barca defend their narrow lead and see out a win that helps them take a big step closer to the La Liga title.

In more than one way, his passionate celebration of climbing atop a team was reminiscent of how ex-Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand often jumped on top of team huddles during goal celebrations.

Barcelona fans just can’t seem to get enough of the Spanish midfielder and found one more reason to love him after the celebrations.

Supporters are really appreciative of how passionate Gavi is for his team’s success and his contributions towards maintaining a family-like unity within the team.

While Gavi and his teammates deserve to celebrate such hard-fought wins for a long time, they’re going to be focused on ensuring Barca’s impressive winning momentum continues for a long time and helps them win multiple trophies at the end of the season.
